This is video of a 15 week old Dachshund puppy being clicker trained to stand. For some reason, a lot of people like to post "why does the dog need to stand?", "why does it need a treat for standing?", etc, etc. This puppy was being trained to stand because she was going to be a show dog. Yes, dogs stand all the time, but show dogs need to stand a certain way and move a certain way and yes, they need to be trained for it. She was trained well and easily finished her championship.

  • I thought the clicker was used for distracting them from doing something wrong.

  • @andie361 No, the clicker is never used to distract them. Used properly the clicker is used as a "bridge" which means it tells the animal that the exact moment they heard the click they were doing the correct behavior and a reinforcer (usually food) is coming. So, it acts as a "bridge" between the correct behavior and the treat. Hope that makes sense:)

  • @BraveheartDogs Makes perfect sense. Could you use this type of training on an adult dog to prevent barking? I have a dachshund that looks exactly like the one in this video actually, lol, and we have MAJOR barking issues. She's almost 3 yrs old, btw. We're using the waterbottle, and it stops the bark at that second, but doesn't seem to be working as a permanent solution.

  • @andie361 Yes, you could. It depends on what is triggering the barking too. I usually need to know what causes the barking to know how to work with it. Water bottles generally do not work well, they usually just interrupt the behavior and only with the owner present and only when you have a water bottle in your hand.

  • @BraveheartDogs 98% of it is definitely barking when she gets happy and excited, say when one of her favorite people comes to the house, And it's just like a person talking when they're happy and excited...high pitched and annoying, lol. The other 2% is barking at, and this is going to sound funny...anything that moves quickly. (i.e.--cars, bikes, someone running, the vacuum cleaner, lol) And that is the exact issue I'm having with the water bottle.

  • @andie361 if you want to email me at braveheartdogs@gmail.com I will give you some suggestions:)

  • I wish I got a treat for standing :(

  • I'm very confused. The dog appears to be standing nearly the entire time. Aren't dogs standing most of the time anyways?
