An interesting look at Connie flight operations, particularly the intensive maintenance required. Confidence inspiring? Judge for yourself

  • Thank you for this incredible treat. When I watched, I felt that old pride in being an American a feeling and a spirit that seems a million years ago. A time when engineering to perfection was by slide rule, and being a passenger on an airliner was a special thing, and your mom and dressed you in your best dress. And you were treated with respect, and not like a common criminal or at best cattle. People today don't have a clue what they missed by being born too late.

    Again Thanks,

    Cindy

  • @redravensounds Probbably if you pay simillar price today you will ne treated even better :) Flying at that times was very expencive.

  • What? No mag check??

  • I have flown in DC 6`s but never had the chance to fly in a Connie. What a nice looking ship. That was when flying was a treat. I remember flying United on DC 6 `s they had a great breakfest, that included four Winstons. I guess we will never see that kind of service again.

  • One of the prettiest airplanes ever built.

  • @henerymag indubitably...

  • @henerymag Yeah, and give everyone around you a good dose of lung cancer. Smoking is a filthy, disgusting habit.

  • One thing about flying in those days that was nasty was all that smoking.

  • Funny how everything was manualy operated, the margins for errors were too great for my taste. But hey, it was old days.

  • Were black people allowed on those planes back then?

  • @redravensounds Yes Cindy, I'm glad also that I lived in that era. Life seemed much simpler and calm. I suppose those who were 64 at that time also thought the same way about their early years too. No darn airplanes making so much noise and busy noisy highways. I am glad that I witnessed the steam age of travel also, although it was all but ended then
