I can sympathize. If I pulled my ear off and couldn't get it back in I would have the same look of panic. At least it was just his ear.

The reason he stopped moving is a special sensor to detect whether there has been an "intrusion" into the area of the audio-animatronic. The audio-animatronics could injure or worse. So there's an infrared "intrusion" sensor that works by using a laser beam. If the laser beam isn't reflected back the same way every time it scans, it stops the motion of the animatronic assuming someone is in there and could get injured. In this case, the dropped ear set it off by falling in the laser beam.
