A lot of you have been asking how to get a good sound instantly out of East West libraries, so I decided to start a project of making multi's based of famous film scores and composer's sounds-this shows the multis "Reunion", and "Battle Steed", the first based off a generic end of movie sound, the second based off the War Horse soundtrack. If you're interested in these, please comment below-I'll try to make these available to all of you as soon as possible.

Current multis include sounds based off of Inception, War Horse, LOST, Road to Perdition, Superman, Sherlock Holmes, Saving Private Ryan, Pirates of the Caribbean, Crimson Tide, and Edward Scissorhands.

  • how do you actually record the sound of what you are playing?? (on symphonic orchestra gold)

  • @nos0323 You need a DAW such as Logic or Cubase

  • Do you also use some other Plugins for string legato-/lyrical lines? Because in my opinion East West sounds pretty artificial here, did you ever use Vienna VSL?

  • @BraunerSenf It probably sounds artificial because of the sound quality, and because it's all real-time multi's-with extra work it would sound better. I personally dislike VSL, the micing sounds way to close for me.

  • @jdrcomposer

I'm sry but what is a real-time multi? Do you mean that you just used one patch and played it "live"?

I don't think that the microfone position of VSL is the only reason you dont like VSL, because you can also change it in your sequenzer by experiencing a bit. Do you really always prefere this huge sound of East West? Sometimes it sounds a bit too hollywood-like in my opinion, thats way I wanna buy some VSL Plugins, for example the exotic "elements".But what about you?

  • @BraunerSenf Yes, real time means that it's just one patch. I've never gotten any of the ensembles in VSL to sound like I want it-I do prefer the bigger hollywood sound, which is why I also don't love LA scoring strings.

  • Thanks JDR! It's nice to see some video's of how you compose your tracks. Would love a timelapse video of one of your compositions one day so others could see how you work on a composition, including all the software used ^^ :).

  • Great video. Setting up my own multis is something I need to get the finger out and work on. What I've been doing at the moment is composing a piece, then saving it as a template 'style'. It's kind of the same thing but has a broader range of instruments - but cutting it into smaller multi's is a good idea, especially for mixing and matching. Look forward to more vids.

  • Very nice work! I haven't got the keyboard skills to do anything like that.

  • @chiffmonkey You can get less expensive lower end stuff, but . . . they never sound anywhere near their more expensive counterparts. I agree, they are expensive. My guess would be because it isn't a main stream market product, they are generally geared more towards studio use. And the creators have to make a living. heh. It took me a long time to save enough to get VSL SE. Real life kept getting in the way.

  • Why must composition software be so expensive :( I got a new 12 string guitar way cheaper lol.

  • Cool idea. Hope to learn a ton!

  • I've always wanted to see how you would do composing in the style of Bruno Coulais, like how he did in the film Coraline. Just a suggestion :)
