im 3minutes in and am still waiting to see this thing do something my girlfriends forester cant do. how exciting! you drove it through a mud puddle and got it all dirty! i didnt see it go through the mud hole/ hill combo that the rovers were trying at the 6 min mark. THAT wouldve been impressive for that thing. its just a overpriced station wagon.

i think he did very well for an SUV that is not intended to do this for once and he has at least more skill than the horrible landrover driver :)

it's not the rubicon track but nice to see that the bmw is capable of doing the standard off-the-track stuff that normal life would have in store for ppl

this video solidifies the fact that the X3 is just as capable as the Honda CR-V and the RAV4 for it's offroad prowess, but manages to do that at double their price.

i was waiting when the X3 was going to start to go offroad, except the video ended. all i see is the X3 driving around mud and inclines just as steep as my driveway. something i do in my Ford Focus daily, and i don't call it offroading.

i was expecting river fording, climbing the rubicon, all on Premium Grade Gas!

I'm sorry, but the X3 is pathetic off road. I think the only reason it was able to do all this is because it had a good driver. It's good compared to average, however the at the price point, it's a bad off roader. Much better offerings from Toyota, Land rover etc for the same or lower price or even an X5 is more capable than this, the ground clearance on this is embarrassing for an off roader :P

In the meantime; I'll stick with my LR3.

The X3 has X-drive, and although it lacks a granny gear it is an outstanding system for traction control and most off-road duties outside of rock-crawling. The engineering includes running driveshafts through rather than around the undercarriage to give it outstanding ground clearance - you'll never confust this with your average US 4X4.
