Professor Marc Lamont Hill appears on the O'Reilly factor to debate the use of "articulate" by white people to describe Barack Obama and other Blacks. Although they discuss a comment from President Bush, the conversation moves to race and racism in America.

Marc Lamont Hill is an absurdist. He always has been, and he always will be. If a white person says good morning to a black person, he will sophistically argue that what was really meant is: "OMG! What is this silly n****r doing off the plantation? I am surprised!!!"
I agree with you. I also think, since it''s Obama's "charisma" that captures people's attention, that we should call it that--not his being articulate. Articulation adds to charisma, so, to just label him as articulate is to belittle him. His charisma is inclusive of, but not simply limited to, his word articulation. Do you see what I mean? Maybe I went too deep, but I think that mine is the point that subconsciously rubs people the wrong way.
Don't make the mistake that so may others do when considering Bush. He is no dummy. I have vid of him 10 years ago and the guy was talking like a lawyer or a pimp-real fast! He sold us a war that will generate billions for the rest of his life and further. If he's dumb then how dumb are we for falling for his tricks? It's actually brilliant that the system made him out to be stupid and further proves my point that we already have a 1-world govt. They're just tying up loose ends thru legislation.
Yes. That's exactly it. It's a racist hit below the belt. But I disagree with you about Bush being "smart enough to know what he's saying." That kind of thinking is ingrained into the collective white elitist mindset--a superiority delusion, isn't it?
damn right! excellent comment. in fact, i was struck by Obama's verbosity as well, and i don't think that was a reflection on his race at all; in fact, i am impressed when i see ANYONE who's articulate, because it's a quality i admire. indeed, i must admit that i'm even surprised when i see anyone with any true verbal skills, especially on youtube :P anyway, i agree with what you said: i don't think Marc is personally invested in this issue, but he is speaking for those who sensed condescension.

I'd actually like to debate Marc about attributing himself to these types of inane battles. Its better that Sharpton argue these points
Everyone knows that Sharpton grew up in brutally racist times. People can't imagine.
So they expect this from Sharpton.
But when Marc, new blood, intelligently argues a trite point like this... see what I'm saying?
