Opening night of the 87th Festival at the Verona Arena. The opera was Bizet's Carmen and the conductor was Placido Domingo. I had a great seat, but since it's an outdoor arena, you take your chances with the the weather...
We could hear thunder rumbling during Act I, but the music & the ambiance was so great that everyone ignored it. After a 20min intermission, Act II began with lightening in the sky... then a sudden deluge that showed no signs of slowing down. Everyone started to rush for the doors & covered walkways of the arena. Roughly 5 mins after this video clip was taken, the announcement was made through the loud speaker that the show was definitely cancelled due to weather.
Even though I didn't get to see the whole opera, it was still a very moving experience, the stage was like a film studio movie set... HUGE! With hundreds of extras & live animals like horses & donkeys! Amazing!
i was here i am an usher :) I'm so sorry that the show was definitely cancelled due to weather. T_T
