Beowulf, Prologue & Chapter 1

A reading of Beowulf, covering the prologue and chapter one. If you enjoyed it, I'd happily continue on with it. I used the Burton Raffel translation for this, if you don't like that one - unfortunate. Ignore the strange ramblings about God during it, the bloody thing was saved by monks yet it was saddening they had to add their own frakking twist to it.

i kind of think its interesting though, how the monks put their own twists into it. it makes it more of a story of different cultures, where you have the changes made to it as it was handed down through the generations, and then as it was written for the first time by the monks, and then again as the translator wrote it. i don't know, the fact that its a story that has been touched by so many hands fascinates me (:

Which translation are you reading. I'm currently reading Seamus Heaney's translation. Just curious.
