I have had 7 Rolls Royces so far, and they might be overpriced but very reliable. Anyone who thinks its a piece of junk must be stupid. Great engine, gearbox and brakes, but you need to look out for rust. The last 3 cost me 2900-3800 british pounds and they all start on the button and are very reliable. At that price its a bargain, and such bargains can be found. Love my Shadows and Silver Spirit -I recommend them to anyone, and the ride is absolutely fantastic.

I have got a very good hint for you to keeping the nice old Engine in good shape with todays ultra dry eco fuels: Use 1:100 API TC two stroke oil / fuel mix as regular driving fuel, that keeps the old fuel-system gaskets, rubber parts, alloy parts etc... and cast iron metal surfaces of those vintage engines in excellent shape...and it also lubricates the valves and upper piston regions. Most Porsche vintage owners in Germany do so :) Also keeps carbs and tank clean and rustfree

I don't remember being too alarmed when I took the panel off of mine, except for what the idiot who refinished the woodwork did with the rain guards.

when this was built they were owned by the british and Jaguar is now Indian owned

What people don't know is that RR stopped building cars, directly, after 1971. The motorcar division was hived-off and left to stand on its own feet so that RR could get on with its core business, which was and is, to make gas turbines. And they are now doing rather well - thank you. Let the Germans get on and make cars - that's there thing. And modern day RR? Power systems for the world - that's their thing.
-
What about the construction is substandard? I knew the quality of the steel was not great, but what else?
And what happens when a RR is in a collision? How do the occupants fare? I can find absolutely no information on Rolls Royce safety. The early, pre-WWII cars were built like tanks. Are later ones less structurally sound?

they can stand against the germans because they are german cars.wake from your sleep

I agree.

Extremes of engineering to achieve subtle quality @ great expense. Sophisticated power & control with superb finish.
Erm, if you want a bit of a surprise though (& you're mechanically minded) take a door panel off a shadow ! & have a look at the construction there. Bit embarassin'.
I love both my Shadows to bits though & they will be with me till I also fade away.

The "proper" Rolls Royce and Bentley cars are gone, now...........these still proudly fly the flag for the Marques...........
In all it's so-called-beauty it has one major flaw...it's British. By default, it's an overpriced piece of junk that will do nothing but break down and strand you.

It is obvious that you do not know the brand. I own a Silver Spirit since 1997 and the only problem it gave me is a leak in the steering wheel

I have an 1981 Silver Spirit. Cost me very little per year to maintain and honestly for 30 or 40 thousands whatever it is in US Dollars, British Pound or Euros will give you an immaculate, trouble free car.
