@MickeyLove01 Well, Mark was a very perfeccionist guy but David wasn't a bad rythm guitar player. I don't know what kind of ability was he looking for on his brother. Write lyrics or play? I think is the second. Anyway, later Mark almost changed the whole band: He contracted new musicians, saxophones, keyboardist, pedal steel... It wasn't a band, it was Mark Knopfler with new musicians calling themselves Dire Straits. I never understood that. A band is a band. They are always the same people.

@redstratocaster1942 I know he had a major tantrum during the making of Dire Strait's 3rd album, I think it was the 3rd anyway and left the band when they were on the verge of mega-stardom. I know someone who is an associate of one of the studio staff during that time, yet he still denies it and then blocked me from contact on his website. How childish. The rumour was that mark was going to kick him out of the band anyway due to his limited ability.
