  • I grew up in the adjoining duplex to the O Trembiaks! We knew them as Miss Jane and Mr. Mart. My family moved there in about 1966 when I was about four, a year before the tornado and big snowstorm. My mother passed away in 2006 but my father still lives there today. I have great memories of that house and of Hometown.. The house was white and brown as long as I can remember!

  • Nice to hear from you. So, your family moved into the duplex after Mike, Peggy and family moved away in 1966. Is that right? I do remember the tornado that devistated the south side that year as well as the big snow of '67.

Was it by chance that you stumbled on this video? Thanks again for watching ... and sharing your memories -- Keith

  • Keith, a question about this video....was the original in black and white and then later "colorized" or was the original in color? The reason I ask is because I do not remember our house being that color (like a brown egg shell), to me it was always white with brown trim.

The last time I was there was in Spring 1999. I was in the neighborhood and decided to stop and show my young son where I grew up. We talked to Jane, and even though I hadnt seen her in 20 years, she knew me immediately!

  • Mike, the original footage was digitally transferred from 8mm color movie film and hasn't been retouched or altered. It seems, the Kilbourne Ave. homestead in the late '50s was indeed a painted brown eggshell. Who moved into the property first, the Otrembiaks or your family? Did you know that "Big Mike" has been residing at 8774 Kilbourne (his childhood home) for the past couple of years? I've been to the place recently and believe it is painted white with brown trim as you remember it. - Keith

  • Hello, I am the littlest girl in this video! My brother Mike sent this to me and the first time I watched it, I was awe struck by it, the second time through I had tears rolling down my face. Thank you so much, to my knowledge it is the only video/film of my family. It was such a thrill getting this! Regards to you, Peggy Schulze

  • Hi Peggy. Thanks for your kind feedback. I'm very happy you and Mike stubbled on this. The footage that shows your family is great! I just had to leave it in, because it seems that you guys were indirect family as well, and you added to the charm of the piece. As I wrote to Mike, I do remember you guys on my visits to Kilbourne as a kid, but we were never introduced. Seems a shame now, since we are probably close in age. Best to you, Peggy - Keith

  • @mirandaluvslps Hi Dave,Yes, my family were the first to live in 8772, you think that is amazing, but what I think is amazing is that your father still lives there! That would make only just 3 families to live in that house over the past 57 years, wow! I received this video from the widower of Susie O, who tragically passed away in 2009. Bill and I got reacquainted along with Mike O when they attended my mom's wake earlier this year (she was the pretty red headed lady in the video).

  • @mjt1704 Hi Mike H. My name is Dave& I made the earlier post. I'm just using my daughter Miranda's Youtube account. I find this so amazing to hear from the first person to live at 8772 Kilbourn. This has been my family's home for so long it's hard to imagine anyone else living there. I went to Hometown school and still keep in touch with with people I grew up there. Every person I know whoever lived in Hometown has such great things to say about it. There's just something about that place!

John, We never met as kids, but I "knew" of you, from a distance (as most all kids in Hometown knew of each other, from church, Little League, fireworks, just riding bikes around. I believe you were getting into music as a teenager, playing guitar. I think you attended Lady of Loretto, as did I, but think you were a year older than me. I was class of 64. Many , many great cherished memories of Hometown "back in the day".

Hi miranda, this is Mike H., the little boy in this video. My family was the first resident of 8772 Kilbourn...we moved there in 1953, and moved away in 1959 (I think this video is from 1955 or 56). The family that bought the house from us were the Larsens, which is who your family probably bought from. At the time, we were living elsewhere in Hometown, but I remember Jane telling my mother that since the Larsens were now selling, we could buy it back from them and move in!

  • Thanks you for the great video. I grew up on west 90th place..so many great memories..It was a thrill to be grand marshal for Hometown's 50th anniversary. Many times I've considered a move back...you never know.

    Cheers
