fishtale.wordpress.com: Just bought a Siamese Algae Eater (SAE) to help eradicate the green hair algae that is growing in our 3ft planted tank. She swims graciously around the tank, interacting with the inhabitants in our aquarium.

  • Those were glosso in the foreground.

Chinese algae eaters do get aggressive when they are adults; so the best bet is still get a SAE instead.

  • @An3ggPlant1 They are called flying foxes sometimes, but that's wrong. Flying fox are another species with black fins. This is a true sae. Their are articles online to distinguish the diff species.

  • you tank is very well planted. I like your video.

  • i got one for my tank and he was rllllllly little and had this gross looking orange on him....he was the only one at the pet store with it. i noticed after about 2 weeks it was just the color of his skin but tht only made me think he was sick....i decided to wait it out and not hes about 4 inches maybe lil bit over but hes got a solid orange head and back and its a very colorful one and not a bore like the normal ones

  • isnt that a flying fox....

  • @maita123456789 well the tank is about 65 gallons. i know its not quite big enough but ive seen people keep them in much smaller tanks than mine. mine grows about 1 to 1.5 inches per month. i have alot more fish than what i said i was going to get

  • @wolverine1865 u better have a big fish tank since that sail fin pleco going to grow big since i have on that i bought that was 1 and a half inch long but now it is like 9 inch long with its tail and its only been a year

  • lol, SAE's and CAE's are very prone to sucking at eating algae. Get an otocinlus catfish. Much more hyper and faster at eating. A small school of 6 for a 30 gallon will clean it up in a very short amount of time. 10 in a 50 gallon will eat it no problem. Plus algae eaters are big and ugly, while otto's don't really effect the bioload or the swimming space (they hug objects and the wall) so it doesn't lower the amount of fish you put it as much. win-win with otto's

  • Nice tank, it's bright and clean

  • are siamese algae eaters peaceful fish? im thinking about getting some for my new tank. they would be living with

    1 betta (male)

    1 sailfin pleco

    6 neon tetras

    5 black neons

    4 serpae tetras

6 dwarf loaches (when i get them)

  • Unfortunately they only eat Beard Algae, not the kind that CAE eat when young.

    But Mollies eat BA too.

If you want a glass or object algae cleaner get a Bristlenose catfish. They only grow to 5-6" long (shorter than a CAE) and are non aggressive.

See the Aquarium Wiki Encyclopaedia web site.

  • SAEs are great in groups as they shoal and hang out on my Amazon sword leaves together.

Most of mine are 6-7" long now.

  • He feeds them?

  • Most fish will eat tiny shrimp, it's a common meal for them in the wild.

  • i wanna kno the same thing.... and do red eye tetras eat cherry shrimp

  • anyone know if sae will eat cherry shrimp ? thanks

  • how do u get your plants to be so healthy and greeen.

  • there is 1 i bought his smaller and better the old just hides in a catle and the and when i get out of my room he starts playing and when i go back in he goes back to castle

  • this video is awesome! i'd love for you to make it part of the videos at AquariaSpot, com so all the other members could benefit from it. Great DIY!

  • yeah man. most fish will nip at each other, but usually algae eaters only bite when the other fish are annoying it. a lotta my fish died cause the other fish were aggressive

  • my golden algae eater is an aggresive little bastared but my one like tht is peacfull

  • umm maybe but once it gets big...

  • you should get golden chineese algae eaters they do lots of work.

  • Very nice tank! Great work. I also have SAE's. I just love them. Great fish... if you can find a store that knows the breed, and doesn't confuse them with Flying foxes, or CAE's. Got a store near me, and the staff never identify them right. They always point to FFoxes, or Call SAE's flying foxes! duhhh.

I wouldn't ever have a CAE. They get older, and bug everything! SAE's are great for algae.
