This is a clip from a highlight video for the Roller Game Japan League 1992 season. It includes a summary of the rules of the game, plus brief recaps for games held during the Fall season.

A quick summary of the rules:

Two teams play on a 100m track. The track can be flat or banked. One team plays offense only, and the other team plays defense only. The offensive team has a jammer (designated by the full-face helmet) who scores points by lapping opponents. At the start of a jam, both teams skate around the track for an installation lap. Once this initial lap is completed the skaters are in the correct formation, the jammer enters the track and the jam begins. Defensive skaters attempt to stop the offensive jammer at all costs, and offense skaters attempt to help their jammer advance by blocking defenders and whipping their jammer forward. There is no traditional roller derby "pack," and blocking is legal anywhere at any time. Jams last 60 seconds or until the jam is called by the jammer. Teams alternate offense and defense each jam.

Although the game is full-contact, penalties can be called for going completely out of bounds into the infield (cutting), tripping, or blocking while not having a positional advantage. Games are structured like a tennis match, broken down into sets. The team with the most points in a set wins the set, and then the score is reset to 0-0 for the next set. First team to 3 sets out of 5 wins the game.

Roller Game was a full-throttle, full-contact Japanese variant of roller derby. Please see the other clips in this series for more information about the game.
