its composed by Batman, Nightmare Before Christmas and Spider-Man composer Danny Elfman. that's why its sounds so freakin cool:)

I just noticed that The Big Bang Theory has a remarkably similar introduction. They probably stole it from Dilbert.

I always thought this show had one of the coolest opening sequences ever. Shame it's rarely recognized for it...
