His 1957 season was more impressive in a lot of ways. What they don't mention is his on base percentage statistics which are the best anyone without steroids has ever done. He got on base 55% of the time.
The only hitter who possibly could have been better than Williams was Tony Gwynn, given the increase in caliber of play.
