Sony Ericsson Championships - Doha 2008: Day Three

Jelena Jankovic confirmed her place in the semifinals of the Sony Ericsson Championships - Doha 2008 with defeat of Svetlana Kuznetsova on Thursday. The world No.1 and top seed had to draw on steely resolve for her 76(6) 64 win over the Russian.

Venus Williams drew level in her on-court rivalry with sister Serena on Thursday, by coming from behind in their round robin match to win 57 61 60. The two are now 9-9 in career Tour matches, and 2-2 in 2008, after Serena won at Bangalore and the US Open, and Venus triumphed at Wimbledon. Venus also confirmed her place in the event's semifinals, although Serena's prospects are less certain.

Elena Dementieva wrapped up Day 3 action at the Championships in winning form, prevailing in an all-Russian affair with Dinara Safina in straight sets. The No.5-seeded Dementieva, who played the cleaner match against the No.2-seeded Safina, keeping her unforced errors down and hanging in the rallies long enough to draw a number of miscues from her countrywoman. She prevailed, 62 64.
