@SloveintzWend Either way I suppose on the Martian surface one's bodily fluids and soft tissues would turn to slush or freeze entirely long before they could expand or evaporate to any significant degree.

@SloveintzWend Hollywood's never been particularly well known for its scientific soundness, though I have heard stories of people who experienced severe swelling of the brain at extreme low pressure which causes their eyes to bulge. It's possible someone heard a similar tale and thought it would look good on film, though blood boiling may not be unreasonable in the context of the film given a character is exposed to the Martian atmosphere and swells up wholly, turning bright red.

Well concerning that Mars has some amount of atmosphere there could be a different kind of situation than in vacuum. Basically you just die due to the oxygen deprivation nothing serious, if you or others around you are not able to re-pressurise your suit of course

@Mandolinpossum Human body is a pressurised vessel itself , it can keep fluids under pressure quite well so there's no imminent danger with smaller amount of oxen in the blood stream, problem are larger amounts of gasses. Particularly in your lungs. If you don't exhale your lungs may explode. If you anticipate the pressure loss and if you exhale it's OK. But for sure your eyes won't bulge out, although the eye fluid may start boiling(evaporating)
