  • Jimmer, and WKC:

I didn't practice GS, but as an RKC instructor I see the difference in terms of GPP and SPP.

GS focuses on Specific Physical Preparedness - do a few specific exercises (snatches and jerks) as good as physically possible.

RKC focuses on General Physical Preparedness - build a solid foundation for your sport-specific activities, or generally, you know, life...

Hardstyle Kettlebell, as practiced in the RKC system is not competitive.

  • @ndydck But the problem with this logic is a low level Kettlebell Sport Athlete is much more "generally prepared for life" than any RKC. Kettlebell Sport is specific, but the few exercises if done even in a less devoted way will generally prepare you more than you can imagine. They are simple movements. Bend over. Put arms over head. No matter how you cut it, when someone does more reps, weight, and time, they have more general and specific.

  • Lastly, I promise!! Where the teachings of say the RKC differ, is that they, instead of aiming for ultimate duration, predominantly focus on using the Kbell as a powerful training tool. Techiques differ, because the ultimate aim is different. In short, poor technique and lack of commitment won't get you far in either discipline, believe me!!

  • That's the problem with the logic jimmer, these "softer" techniques only look softer because they are smoother. I assure you they are much more explosive and harder than the hardest hardstyler. How do I know? Well, they lift heavier kettlebells than any hardstyler. They lift faster than any hardstyler too. While it is true the aim of the hardstyler is different, it always puzzled me why, because the sport lifters out-perform them whether it's about fast reps, heavy weights or time.

  • @hypnosquirrel not if it's done properly. I'm not saying it's easy but when the weight isn't just dropped but swung backwards, it does make a difference.

  • Maybe someone could answer a question I have about kettlebells:since it requires nerve strength isnt the state of overtraining an issue?Been training myself 3 years with the giryas and I have noticed it really hits your central nervous system unlike the bodybuilding type of training or running etc

  • that's got to kill the shoulders and the grip on the descent.. .

  • this is incredible and my new goal!

  • well they are 70 lbs, so obviously they are using mostly hips...i mean try or just imagine trying raise a 70lb bell w/ out lower body...near impossible

  • In short, the sport or traditional styles have at their core, conservation of energy and therefore ultimate duration. The "softer" techniques used by these guys are all about not wasting any energy save for that required to complete the action. Why snap the hips hard if you don't need to, you're only wasting energy. These competitors aren't in this to build physique or improve fitness, but they sure as hell reap those rewards believe me!
