Boot and Shutdown Test Between:
MacBook Pro 2.66, 4GB Ram, 320GB (Mid 2009)
MacBook Pro 2.40, 4GB Ram, 320GB (Mid 2010)

Quad vs. Duo Who wins, it may be obvious that the i5 should win and yes that is correct evan though the i5 is 2.4GHz and the other is 2.66, but More Cores (threads) will always win over a single Core with high processor speed.

Video Editing:
MacBook Pro 2.66GHz (Mid 2009) 2min 720p HD movie in iMovie 4-5 Min
MacBook Pro 2.4 i5 (Mid 2010) 2min 720p HD movie in iMovie 1-2 Min

THE ABOVE IS WHAT TIME IT WILL TAKE TO COMPRESS AND EXPORT IN HD IN IMOVIE 09

  • 0:53 The Core 2 Duo has much more Applications!!!

  • @OriginalSwissCheese shouldn't make mush of a difference since they aren't opening at boot. But yes thats something to take into consideration.

  • is i7 better than i5? i want to get macbook pro 17 inch with 8 gig ram and i7 (2.66 GHZ) and 500G 7200rpm for £2225.45. is it worth it? PLUS i am just a student.

  • @IRANseeYAsee when do you want the computer, are you in any rush? and what will you be using it for?

  • "Mid 2010" so futuristic.

  • slower as my i7 on window

  • I'm thinking about getting a MacBook or MacBook Pro, I'm in High School, and I don't know if the pro is worth the $200 more. What do I gain with that money?

  • these computers really take 2 min to boot... damn

  • @IRANseeYAsee - To be honest, I'm also going to be a university student in 2011, and I'm going to be doing quite demanding graphic design work. Even then, I can't see the need in the Core i7 MacBook. Both the Core i5 and Core i7 are dual core proccessors, and the i7 is a fair bit faster but for even what I want to do, the Core i5 @ 2.4GHz is easily fast enough. Also, buy your own RAM and install it yourself, it's much cheaper - just make sure it's the right stuff!

  • They both seem to boot pretty slow? look at the video of my mid 2009 white macbook booting takes less then half the time :s

  • @TecBookPro too late, got one last week, they said it would arrive in 3 days, but still not here. i got i7 with 4 gig ram 500G 7200rpm. for £1930
