This video demonstrates how to drill through a cavity wall, but more importantly how to protect a cable or a pipe that is being passed through the wall. Using a piece of plastic pipe to line the hole will protect the cable or pipe from possible damage caused by debris falling in the cavity. This method also makes it easy to feed a cable through a wall, which is often difficult without specialised equipment. Brought to you by http://www.ultimatehandyman.co.uk/

  • Thanks for the video, was looking to put a satellite cable through the wall, really nervous at doing it though 'cos I get worked up I'm going to hit an electrical wire, I got two sensors that tell me where the electrical wires are but they don't seem that accurate 'cos I think the wall is full of static. Am I right in thinking if we have an RCD unit in our house if I hit a cable that will trip won't it or am I still likely to get a shock?

  • @darrenforster99

If you hit a cable on a RCD protected circuit the RCD should trip, but it's best not to drill anywhere near cables, so make sure there are no sockets or switches near! It's also best to drill from inside-out, once you are through the plaster there should be nothing to worry about as it's unlikely there will be anyting in the bricks or cavity.

  • i watched this because its ur vid lol i did not need to watch it

  • @neilobusk

    You are welcome.

Alarm cable will easily fit through 10mm pipe.

    Thanks for the comment

  • Tbh the pipe seems like a bit of over engineering. Ive fed loads of cables through walls without pipe protecting them and its never caused a fault or damaged the cable.

  • @ultimatehandyman Thanks for the fast reply. The wall I'm drilling in has no electric sockets or light switches on it at all so hopefully there should be nothing there, good to know the RCD will trip if I do get it wrong (although that's the last thing I want to do!)

  • @Nibiru128

    Thanks LOL

    and thanks for the comment
