I call this thunderstorm a beast because of the powerful updrafts it displays as it rushes at least 16km into the atmosphere. This video contains over 30 minutes of timelapse, which shows the explosive nature of the storm. In saying that, I could visually see these updraughts rise higher and higher - without the timelapse.
Surprisingly, because of relatively dry conditions near ground level, and slack shear, this storm only survived for about one hour before it died an ugly death. Another surprise was that hail only reached about 2cm in diamater. Usually, such an impressive looking storm would carry at least golfball size hail, but the problems outlined earlier meant that wasn't the case.
