Nicely done, but after softening the spring as shown by heating it until it is red hot, you could temper the spring again by reheating it to a lesser temperature, only to about 300 degrees C, at which temperature it looks slightly bluish, and then immediately dunking it (on the bolt) into a small jar partly filled with linseed oil. I tried this a couple of days ago on a small spring from a set of kitchen scales and it worked well.
