  • Hey Gator - is Rose Lee Maphis still living around Nashville?

  • @WindNSand I think she's out west in California.

  • I had not seen this version before. I always like Flatt and Scruggs, especially when it something new (to me at least). While many fine singers and groups have done this tune, my favorite version is the original by Joe and Rose Lee Maphis. For a live version check out the Joe, Rose Lee and Gordon Terry performance at the Town Hall Party. Its on Youtube.

  • @WindNSand Why yes ... the song's become a standard. I agree with you on the Maphis' rendition... the Town Hall Party video is on this channel!

  • check out Ernie Ford, Molly Bee and Merle Travis's version. It's my favorite

  • @redtony58 It'd be hard to believe that Molly Bee would ever spend time in a Honky Tonk!

  • thank you for posting this classic music,

  • @ScottShuster Curly Seckler playing mandolin and singing tenor.

  • Fiddle: Paul Warren....Dobro: Josh Graves.....Bass: "Uncle Jake" (= who?)....Mandolin: um...um...I used to know...somebody help me... Paul and Josh's genius bluesy licks (and Lester's attitude when singing) set this rendition apart - and ahead. Joe and Rose Lee Maphis' performance mentioned by WindNSand is also good, but it's not so in-keeping-with-the spirit of the lyric: Too fast, bouncy, and happy. This is a sad song about a woman who is missing out on the sweetness of life, after all...

  • Who hasn't been to a honky-tonk and experienced this? Flatt & Scruggs, and Martha White Self Rising Flour, two names that will go down in history.

  • @redtony58 it'd be hard to believe that Molly Bee would ever spend time in a Honky Tonk!
