Improved Hard-Drive Speakers

An attempt to improve upon the idea of using hard-drives as speakers.

If you don't know what a hard-drive speaker is, you can find out more from ( http://www.afrotechmods.com/cheap/hdspeakers/hdspeakers.htm ), but the short version is that the arm of the drive is re-wired to vibrate like a miniture speaker. All sound you hear in this video is coming from the hard-drive, not a "real" speaker.

The songs are, in the order played, Level Up by Zealous One, The Moon and the Prince from Katamari Damacy, and Mario Takes a Walk by Jesse Cook.

What if U mouted the HDD speakers inside a ressonace box, like a speaker box or a like a classic guitar. I bet that low freq. would be heard. Cool idea m8!

@RMPCTek That's basically what the cans are; they simply happen to be on top of the arm as opposed to the whole device being inside a box.

I know for sure this is not fake. Why? I did it myself.

Where to put the wires?

I advise disconnecting the PCB from the head stack first.

Then, find the wires that go to the voice coil - it's between the high strength magnets.

Connect your wires in a convenient solder landing in that wire path.

Extra credit: Power up the drive, and run your "speaker" with the platters spinning! (Some drives may not like this.)
