My cover of Dogman by King's X, I did have the full written music, given to me by Bass Tutor, But i managed to lose it, so had to re-learn all by ear.
My trusty Fender 50's Precision Bass, in fiesta red.
Recorded into Focusrite Audio interface into Logic Pro 9.
Its hard to get a good bass tone quickly that will show up in the mix, so if it sounds a bit poor in places then thats just because i wanted to make sure you could hear it, even on small Laptop speakers.
Rolling the tone right up on the bass itself then EQ-ing it on logic and using the amp simulator to my advantage.
Hope you enjoy this awesome tune.

  • @streetknight2

  • good job. your tone definitely pales in comparison to Dug's, but a full 12 string and Dug's guitar/bass rig setup is intensive to replicate. that said, love this tune and again, you did a very good job.

  • @sonoffrog Thanks so much, I would've dropped the other strings a 1/2 step, cool

  • @sonoffrog

Haha, its cool. Most people dont notice a 12 from an 8 string without researching anyway :) Oh and btw great job on the cover, obviously you're lacking 8 strings :P but it still sounds really nice well done!

  • @sonoffrog My mistake. yeah 12 string you're right. :L

On this track sounds more like he's playing an 8 string though. that upper octave is less present.

  • @Scartman691

Yeah, youre absolutely right haha... i was mistaken, yeah he mostly uses the 12 string... But he also uses 8 sting stuff on occasion.

    My mistake... :P

  • @sonoffrog

No he means 12 :P Doug uses 12 strings, with double the octave strings :P

  • @Thirdgen83

You mean 8 string... I am going to get an octaver pedal before i do more king's x covers, but this song is one in which the 8 string octave sound is less audible, so it doesn't matter too much.

  • 'Need a 12-string to sound correct on this song...
