This video was created as an aid for the fingerpicking lesson on Ukulele Tricks. In this lesson, we'll learn a fingerpicking pattern that works really well for the 12-bar blues. If you are a beginner, or have never picked before, this is a great pattern to learn.

If you are unfamiliar with the 12-bar blues, check out the previous lesson here: http://www.ukuleletricks.com/12-bar-blues-on-ukulele/

  • hey brett thanks a lot for these videos (and website of course). one question: why do you recommend this exact assignment of the plucking fingers. i have gotten so used to the one you show in the your beginner video on fingerpicking (T-->4th, I-->3rd, M-->2nd, R-->1st), and it seems to be working just as well. cheers

  • @letitsnowization great question! Either finger position works well. It's good to mess around with both. I chose to use this position for this blues fingerpicking pattern because it's common to alternate the bass notes with your thumb in the blues. In this way, it's a bit more intuitive to pluck the lowest C string on the ukulele (second to top string in standard tuning) with your thumb.

  • I've tried so many other uke tutorials, and I ALWAYS come back to you. You are literally teaching me to play the ukulele. Best tutorial on fingerpicking on the net. Thanks!!!
