An illegal tour of San Pedro Prison in La Paz Bolivia!
1500 inmates and their families live here
Cells are bought or rented for 1000 to 1500 US dollars
8 sections in prison: Posta, Pinos, Alamos, San Martin, Prefectura, Palmak, Guanay, Cancha.
A hotel, dodgy hospital with 1 doctor, restaurants, stores, & multiple churches all run by inmates
Nursery school for the children inside the prison
80% inmates are in for drug trafficking
NO GUARDS, uniforms, or bars
Inmates are free to roam where they please
Prisoners elect representatives as their "security"
Football field and each section has their own team
Apartments can have kitchens, microwaves, cable tv in the wealthier sections
4 deaths a month from violent attacks and natural causes
There are huge cocaine labs inside the prison as well as marijuana being grown on the roof
Government knows about the drugs being smuggled but they make a profit from it too.

If you do not have money, you will DIE.

  • I spent 4 months here awaiting an extradition request from U.S. on a minor crime. One day they pulled me out to an office and said "you want to go back to the U.S., or pay $5,000usd to stay? For 10k, they will give me 'time served' on my 'u.s. crime' and a temporary residency when I leave". ---calls mom "mom, hello? can u wire me 10k?" Long live corruption!!!!!

  • @guiselc Why would locals want to go in dumb ass?

  • travelinchucks do some amazing shit.

  • This is very mild compared to many other prisons in south america. There are prisons in Venezuela where the prisoners walk around with semi automatics and machetes

  • Can you believe it im half way through the book and the swimming pool and most of the stuff is exactly how i imagined it! !!! :0

  • Entrando in prigione avete trattato i carcerati come attrazione da zoo... vergogna!

  • just read the book in 4 days, good stuff maks u want rack...

  • i was there fpr 4 years.
