Some St Petersburg subway stations have quite an interesting way to prevent people from jumping in front of the trains.

  • How it cuts head:

1)A voice is warning you that doors are shutting.

2)Infrared sensors tell a mashinist that's it's safe to close them, he controls it throug a mirrow.

    3)Train doors shuts.

4)After a several seconds station door shuts. They're so close to train doors that you won't get stuck in them even if you wanted to.

    5) System confirms that there's no idiots that got themselves caught.

    6) Train leaves.

In 30 years there was no big accidents and no suicides on these stations.

  • This is probably to prevent accidents, not suicides. To commit suicide, they'd just go to a... not-defended station. It's a shame, really - those stations aren't as beautiful as the undefended stations, despite being slightly more safe.

  • @07healer затерялись где-то)

  • А где русские комменты?><

  • they are more effective at protecting people from being pushed off or accidentally falling off the platform than suicidal people

  • lol didnt notice that someone already posted a comment about that

  • these doors were made just to prevent the tracks from being flooded

  • By the way, it's not for suicide prevention, St.Petersburg is founded on a swamp, these door are made for preventing station flooding.

  • It is flood prevention, St.Petersburg have big flood risk.

  • @mydyingdreams What apparently is the case is when these stations were initially built, the grounds weren't exactly the best to build metro stations with.

And these stations in question were built beginning in the mid to late 1960s, nearly all of them on Lines 2 and 3.

  • thanks
