Because he wouldn't give an answer that would satisfy the outraged public, but could potentially damage his career and get him sued if some nutjob decided to kill Casey Anthony and then use the fact that "Dexter" endorsed it as part of his insanity defense?

First of all, props to him for being realistic. Saying Michael C. Hall a dick for ignoring such a sensitive subject is out of line. By playing the part he brought the character to life, yes, but if you truly want to know the answer ask Jeff Lindsay, the man who created Dexter entirely. And IF Dexter were reality, he probably wouldn't have enough hard evidence to satisfy the Harry Code. That's my thoughts.
