@ahhah53 no problem..that was a kick ass documentary they did...just about 4 years ago...amazing footage from the archives and they captured Tom while he was working...it was something else!!!

Did anyone catch the special about Tom Dowd that aired on IFC? GREAT show - what a fabulous, interesting life he had. Who would know that he was a nuclear enginerre before he got into music?

Dowd was obviously near the end of his life, must've been from '02. In "Tom Dowd and the Language of Music" you can see how he ages throughout the documentary which took 5 or so years to make. He was able to discipline self destructive musicians in the studio because there was so much respect. Butch Trucks told a story of Dowd sending the band home if something was off and he didn't like the way the band sounded.

Didn't Tom Dowd used to work alot with the Allman Brothers Band back in the 70's?

Such a shame this man isn't in the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. I mean Aretha Frankin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, The Allman Brothers, Eric Clapton. The guy produced albums for all of them. He invented muti track recording. He changed the way music is recorded. Greatest producer of all time.

I love all of the musicians he helped. And while I was aware of who he was, I never realized his tremendous contribution. A person who posesses that kind of genius

normally isn' t that kind and caring. He did seem to genuinly care about the people he worked with.
