Rex Grossman's sophomore season at the University of Florida was one of the greatest seasons a quarterback has ever had. http://www.sports-reference.com/cfb/players/rex-grossman-1/gamelog/2001/
Grossman passed for over 300 yards in nine consecutive games. He led the nation in passing efficiency, passing completion percentage and yards per attempt. A consensus All-American, Rex was voted the AP Player of the Year and came in second in the Heisman voting. At the time his 55 TD passes through his sophomore season were the most in NCAA history.
Rex is the best!

@bull864 I remember that "Black Out" night in Columbia, such excitement when the Gamecocks took the lead but it didn't turn out the way the home-folks intended as the Gators scored on something like nine straight possessions. The 2001 Florida team sure was fun. I've continued to be a Spurrier fan.

@knoeful This 2001 Florida team was the best two loss team in the history of college football. I'm a South Carolina fan, and we were a good team in '01 and Florida absolutely destroyed us in our house in front of 85,000 rabid fans. I'm not sure this wasn't Spurrier's best Florida team, even better than the 1996 version.

@bull864 You're right, Miami beat Nebraska & Eric Crouch in the 2001 championship game at the Rose Bowl. In both of their losses that year the Gators were without running back Ernest Graham. Nebraska, like Alabama this year, played in the national championship game without having played in their conference championship game.

@flashbang11 Actually, that year Florida lost to Auburn in a tropical storm and somehow lost to Tennessee. They were every bit as good as Miami, and I don't think Clarett arrived at OSU until 2002.

No way he should have not won the Heisman this year..And if not for MR. Twister Darnell Dockett(FSU) we would have been in the National Championship game vs. Miami..

Also, you have to take into account the receivers he was throwing to (all NFL players - Gaffney, Caldwell, Jacobs (albeit a flop), Troupe) and the separation they were getting IN THE SEC. Those guys were also making great catches in tight coverage. How did that Florida team not win the national championship? Oh yeah, Miami in its prime and Clarett OSU.
