Two skin care scientists working at two different Johnson & Johnson companies - one in California and one in New Jersey - spent years working on a breakthrough in sun care. Most sunscrens work by protecting the skin against UVB rays, the cause of sunburn, but are not as effective against UVA rays, which are implicated in sun-induced aging of the skin, as well as skin cancer. The two scientists came up with a formaulation for skin care products, under the NEUTROGENA(r) and AVEENO(r) trademarks that protect against both UVB and UVA rays.
