I think tripods are handy depending on what your filming.I mostly use a tripod but I don't always use it.I mostly use it for faster trains but in slow areas I just hold camera.Good videos

Technically...you are supposed to be in a seat while moving unless duties require otherwise. On NS they are cracking down on this and I seriously doubt he was out there to flag the crossing, nor do I believe he had ear pro on....this is yet another reason NS keeps writing rules to slow everything down to a crawl. I love railroading and my brothers/sisters make it tough to defend when we go to investigations for things like this and try and get them out of hock! Railroad responsible!

There is a garded rail infront of him on the nose of the locomotive. Also, you just get use to the horn and he was probabley wearing ear protection.
