So the big reason as to why I got so many matches on the 27th and so few on the 17th is because of the time of day I tried to go online. I believe the last time was in the late hours before and after the day rolled over whereas these matches are from mid-afternoon.

Anyway, part of the new material I've got to report is that I have all the hidden stages and characters tied to number of matches played, and in all honesty the only way I could have had nearly enough to unlock them would be if online matches did in fact count for something...but I don't know if they'll register as being unlocked after an online match, since I just played three offline, got the first of them unlocked, and then just decided to stick around while the extra Rabbid types were being made available and the last of the stages unlocked.

Match #1 -- Turtle Base
Ninja Rabbid (Joou)
vs. Leonardo (TMNT1)
vs. Splinter Rabbid (TMNT2)

Okay, so somebody else had a similar idea to mine and decided to take a Rabbid for a spin against all these incredibly serious-looking-and-sounding opponents.

And of course, these wacky lapine invaders brought on board by the publisher ARE entirely out of place, and probably have more than their fair share of detractors who see them as several wasted character slots. Then again, if the final roster would have simply lacked them, I'll take a handful of Rabbids over a smaller roster any day.

Here I use the Ninja Rabbid, who seems to want to play at being a ninja turtle with a toilet seat on his back and dual-wielding spatulas and a couple more hidden who-knows-where (I guess under the seat!?) that he will juggle and launch for other attacks.

The Splinter Rabbid can be seen wearing Sam Fisher's signature night vision goggles and spy suit and attacking foes with a tennis racket (although sometimes I swear it looks more like a toilet brush) and suction-dart gun (although it sounds more like a popgun when fired if you ask me)...so no, it's not a "Master Splinter" Rabbid, it's a "Splinter Cell" Rabbid.

Match #2 -- Warehouse
Raving Rabbid (Joou)
vs. Casey Jones (TMNT1)
vs. Splinter Rabbid (TMNT2)
vs. Raphael (TMNT3)

Woohoo! Another four-player match. I love these, but in lots of ways, all the extra chaos makes it less about who performs the best and more about who can escape the fray and launch a strong attack upon the weakened remainders so as to defeat them while they're caught unaware. This actually makes a stage like the Warehouse all the more dangerous...all the analysis and insight in the world into the behavior of the stage gimmicks won't help you if you're distracted by a swarm of hostile players that threaten to bowl you over.

This match actually immediately followed the previous one, so I believe that TMNT1 and TMNT2 are the same two players as before, which would interestingly indicate that TMNT2 is a Splinter Rabbid user, whereas I find that Rabbids online are rare enough to the point where it's difficult for me to say whether they're actively disliked or just not unlocked, which I'd believe either way, actually.

This time I use the Raving Rabbid, which is actually the single character that takes the longest to unlock...which I find slightly odd since it's the one that's supposed to be the "definitive" Rabbid archtype. Armed with a broom and an array of other props to help him bring on the hurt, this Rabbid is the most unpredictable.

I have NO idea why he's wearing a Speedo when in the natural habitat of their own games, Rabbids devoid of clothing were completely au naturel...erm, I mean completely natural!

Match #3 -- Garbage Dump
Donatello (Joou)
vs. Raphael (TMNT1)

And finally I get to see what this stage is like! I had to unlock it myself and requested this to be the destination for several rounds in a row and only seemed to get my way when it was a 50/50 toss-up for a one-on-one match.

It actually seems like a very similar concept to the Underground, but with a bit more randomness in the timing and nature of the falling objects. Basically every few seconds one of the two stage walls of garbage will violently shake (I can't tell if this is affected by player behavior, but it definitely happens even if you don't mess with them) and various bits of debris will fall on that half of the field...refrigerators, bathtubs, trucks...squad cars...whatever...y'know, the sorts of things that New Yorkers would throw out anyway...I think...

I can definitely see why this stage doesn't get much exposure...like the Rabbids, it's highly unlikely that it wouldn't be unlocked yet for players who don't bother to sit down and fight the number of requisite matches to open it up, and also like the Rabbids I believe that the majority of players wouldn't really like it too much, because of the frequent and (relatively) unpredictable interference it can provide.

  • You know, all this time, I've been perplexed by the odd drawl the countdown voice clips has. Is it any character in particular? Announcer voices tend to be pretty serious and with that neutral midwestern accent news anchors are trained to have.
