Bill Frisell (b. 1951) was raised in Denver, Colorado where thanks to his father's encouragement, he began to study music. He started out on the clarinet and then switched to the saxophone before finally settling on the guitar. Bill studied at the Northern Colorado University as well as Berklee College of Music. Although he has worked as sideman for many great artists, he has predominantly established himself under his own name. His style is beyond category since he borrows from rock, jazz, country and avante-garde artists alike.

Today's lick is a very melodic treatment of a I - VI - II - V - I progression. In the style of Frisell it should be played at a relatively slow tempo and with an even-eighths feel. For more of a challenge, try this in V and X positions on the fretboard.
