Chehalis-Centralia Steam Train Baldwin 2-8-2

Chehalis. Wa, steam train, Baldwin 2-8-2 #15, getting ready for trip, then starting off with an excursion train. It is easy to understand in person, and hopefully a little from the video, how so many felt that the old steam engines were in a way living, breathing entities. Up close the loco at rest reminded my daughter of Darth Vader, with the breathy inhale/exhale sounds, and as she blasted past us ( and I scooted a bit farther from the track ) the escaping steam sounds like a person breathing in and out. Intense in person, really cool! Looking forward to seeing a mainline steamer again... ( 4449? ) This engine was in the Theraflu TV commercials several years ago.

several years ago there was a Theraflu commercial that equated having the flu with an oncoming steam train, I think in contrast with a toy train or something. In any case this was the train from the commercial. Its probably been at least 10 years? I lose track the older I get....

Great video! I got to ride on the White Pass/Yukon Route once, but the steam engines were not operating at that time of the year.. Never seen one in person..
