  • Dry firing is 100% safe with an AR-15. Just make sure the bolt is in.

  • Do you not dry fire as part of a function test after reassembly?

  • @SargentBlah people should clean their weapon anyways im sure theres carbon buildup on ak47s too either wayim a infantryman ive had some m4 jams but onlly when shooting blanks and only cause i had a messed up bfa

  • Users of the M16/AR15 platforms better be damn familiar with cleaning their rifles, and doing it constantly, otherwise the firearm craps out and becomes a jamming piece of useless junk. If you need a rifle to trust your life with, then its the AK47 FOR THE WIN!! AR15's = shelf queens FOR DISPLAYING IN THE RIFLE CABINET!! AK47 = ALPHA MALE KING!!! to trust your life with!!!.

  • wow expert village about this?a lot of people have ar-15 then..

where can i get my license and get one of my own? in live in ca > sf.

  • Your buffer, barrel and expensive parts will 'break' long before the firing pin, which is why the Military condone and encourage dryfiring- trigger control practice versus a $5 firing pin replacement 20 years down the track is a compromise worth making

  • dry firing a weapon will technically weaken a high tensile steel firing pin which is why people say "don't do it!"

Dry firing is different to shooting, as when firing the pin comes into an absorbing stop as it sinks into the soft primer material. Dry firing causes the pin to vibrate violently, arguably 'breaking it'.

  • put a fired brass in use that if you don;t wna dry fire it still hits like a live fire and you have proof if you kids have messed with it

  • no matter what the manual says, dry firing causes unnecessary stress on the firing mechanism because it isn't hitting anything that is supposed to be there

put it this way, when you are sitting, the chair is there to support you as you land and you are anticipating the contact with the chair. Now, lets say some jackass pulls the chair from underneath you; unnecessary stress.

But yes, I've been trained first by dry firing, and then live... I guess military rifles are invincible (laughs)

  • Some you can some you can't. I would'nt reccomend dry fireing a compound bow.

Its the same concept. Some weapons need the resistance of the primer being hit.

  • yeah i alwase wondered how it hurts the firing pin also.

but with some of my guns it does actually say right in the manual not to because it causes damage so i dunno. =/

some guns say they can be dry fired safely though, so maybe some you can and others you cant for whatever internal reason.
