Afro-Mexican Museum Part 2

This is an interview clip with Carlos Torres,the museum curator, who sheds light on Mexico's African heritage a.k.a. the 'third root'. The untold history of Yanga, Vera Cruz and the overlooked descendants of African and indigenous warriors in Mexico is beginning to be revealed with initiatives from cultural groups, researchers and the Afro-Mexican Cultural Museum - more formally known as El Museo de las Culturas Afromestizas. The museum is located in Cuajinicuilapa, Guerrero State, Mexico. Cuajinicuilapa or "Cuaji" is a former palenque and one of the many towns of "La Costa Chica" Region densely populated with Afromestizas. The museum is named after the Vicente Guerrero Saldana, who led Mexico to independence from Spain, became president in 1829 and abolish slavery. Of both Native American and African descent, Guerrero was "technically" America's first Black president. Visit the museum.
