Today we are going to be installing wiring harness part number 20110 on a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD. OK, the first thing I am going to do is to go ahead and point out the components here of our wiring harness. You can see we have got a 7-pole plug that has got pins and a connection point on the back side. At the one end it has got the single plug that is going to be plugging directly into there. And that is the part that we are actually going to be mounting in the bed of the truck. At the other end you can see we have two plugs. These are actually going to be plugging in-line to the existing 7-pole that we have mounted to the bumper on our truck. I am going to mount it here on the drivers side, just rearward of our wheel well. You always want to check before you drill your hole to make sure you have got enough room on the underside. There is a big enough chamber behind there to where we can not only mount our plug but that we are not going to drill into any components. I am going to be using a 2-inch hole saw. That should give us enough room to get the whole encased portion of the 7-pole inside there.

On our harness here, there is a gray protective clip that will keep the harness from coming apart once you have connected it. But right now, it will keep me from actually connecting to my 7-pole, so we want to pop that out of there. To do so, we just pull up the black clip on the plug and pull that right out of there. Then we can go ahead and connect it to our 7-pole, and then we can put our gray tab back in there. Now we will go ahead and feed our connectors down through the existing hole that we just drilled, and then we are going to go ahead and mount our 7-pole in place. To do that, we are going to be using some 1/4-inch by 1-1/4 inch self-tapping screws. Now that we have got our plug mounted, we can go ahead and go underneath the vehicle, where we can connect the other side of our harness to the existing 7-pole underneath.

OK, we are underneath the vehicle now, and I am actually going to go ahead and point out the ports that we are going to need to plug into with our wiring harness. On this particular model, we have actually got two ports where we can plug into. We have got this main one here that is right above the spare tire. Or you can plug in directly behind the 7-pole itself that is mounted on the bumper. I am going to go ahead and use the one that is above the spare tire because I think it will make for a cleaner connection. So I have located my harness here, coming out from the hole that I had drilled, and I am just going to go ahead and route it over the frame rail. And then let us plug our harness in-line. The only thing that we really have left to do is to go ahead and zip-tie up the excess wire that we have. OK, now that we have ensured that we have got all the excess wires secured up and out of the way, this will conclude the installation of wiring harness part number 20110 on a 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 HD.

  • @BoeingXtremes If your vehicle comes equipped with a wiring harness, you would not need to install any wiring yourself. If what you are towing has a different wiring setup, you may need an adapter to connect them, but otherwise your factory installed wiring should do the trick.

  • what if your truck comes with the factor fifth wheel wiring provision?
