A severe weather warning was issued on May 7th 2009. The Clansman steamed to Coll from Oban on her way to Tiree then Barra. I didn't want to miss my weekly trip to Tiree, so packed a lightweight tent just in case I didn't get back. One would have thought that being reasonably well educated, I would have turned the car around and headed back home, but no, my motto is similar to the SAS, only mine is "She who dares, Swims". As we queued to board the Clansman, we were told to go away, she wouldn't make it into Coll, then we were told the captain was to give it a try. So, long story short, we arrived on Tiree, but the boat couldn't get back. The sea was like a boiling cauldron, the hotels and B and B's were overbooked, so I looked miserably at the tent I had packed "just in case". However, there was space at the lovely Hostel, and boy was I thankful !. Poor wee doggies had to sleep in the car, but I suppose that was better than a tent. Refugees from the storm turned up , tent poles battered and broken. Yes, been there, done that. NOTE TO ME: next time there is a severe weather warning. STAY AT HOME !!

  • The weekly shopping trip to Tiree doesn't just mean buying bread and butter and other groceries, which are readily available at our own shop on Coll, no, it involves collecting essential items, such as medicines from the Vet, fresh hearts from the Butchers (for the dogs not me), nails, paint, wood stain from the DIY hardware shop, a new lock for the door from the Shop at Crossapol, fencing, posts, etc. A full and enjoyable day, plus spotting minkes and basking sharks on the way, Luv ALP xx

  • Tell you something Tom, I'm off to Tiree again today, the 14th. The weather on Coll has been like Barbados this week, too hot to sit out. So I'm going to have a lovely day today unlike last Thursday. The hares on Tiree are in large groups. Is that what you call more than one hare ? a group, a gathering?, oh well, you know what I mean
