  • Thanks so much for excerpting this. This was nominated that year for best song, and should have won, but doubtless I'm slightly prejudiced. The music was by my grandfather, M.K. Jerome, the lyric by Ted Koehler. I met Joan not too many years ago at a screening of another movie she did with my grandad, called "The Hard Way", and she spoke very warmly of him. Thanks again for posting this. R.J.

  • You're very welcome. They don't make songs like that anymore.

BTW, my hobby has been to get 'original soundtrack' recordings of all the oscar nominated & winning songs. I have all but about 5. Maybe now I'll try to get the video, too!

  • It's a shame there's not many comments for such a great movie and era. I'm not of that era, but I appreciate the example in all regards. The dedication, character, and style is long gone but not forgotten. Additional: women seem to look better during the WWII years. When America went to war in 2001, I wish someone would have brought back those hair styles and clothing line. How beautiful they were. Signed: Retired Army male.

  • @basesloaded09 "women seem to look better during the WWII years. "

I guess you are right ..they would possibly look fairly ordinary now .....

  • It breaks my heart that people like Joan are going to leave us one of these years. I fell head over heels for her when I saw this movie years ago. What a classy lady.

  • This is music!!!!!

  • Black and white films turn kind of greenish when ripping them... I always add the "grayscale" to return them back to black & white...

  • This time in American history seems so much simpler. Though I know there was plenty of bad things happening, human nature, and folks being their bad selves, I can't help but love this time 1940's-50's.

Hollywood could learn something from this. People who can actually sing, dance, and speak the English language, regardless of their country of origin.

I'm a child of the 60's, but this has always been my favorite time. Maybe I'm just a sucker for Hollywood make-believe.

  • Joan Leslie is so beautiful. Her voice is beautiful. One of my all time favorite movies.

  • I saw this movie in the '40's when the war was raging. It was always one of my favorites.
