He throws his hips out of the water before he flips, when you do that you are causing alot of drag, you should keep your hips as close to the surface as you can. The fastest way between two points is a straight line.

@EffortlessSwimming: I can't breath little air while turning...I used to breath all the air out, cuz it's hard to breath just a bit of them...but I'll keep on practicing, thanks for the tip, really appreciate it cuz now I know that I was on the right track

turns are very important i was in a race well a relay we were in second by the time i pushed off from my start we were second (i was going 3rd) so far then i did my flipturn and i was a whole body ahead of her

if you to close to the wall when your flip turning when you notice it right when your about to flip turn, do a slow one so you don't kick you knees into your face. obviously don't go slow when you're in an event

Makes it look easy.haha

its all about how much energy you can afford to use and how long your body is, the best way to learn is practice and see what works best for you.
My son always rolls off to the side before he can do the flip. How can he correct this?

@veenasyamt You can practice by sculling stationary in the middle of the pool and practicing the flip by itself.

I used to get water into my nose while doing the flip turn, please give me some tip or advice on how to prevent that, thanks!

@ducnguyen1994 Hold your breath into the turn, blow out small amounts of air as you start turning and blow out the remainder of your oxygen just before you take your first breath

wouldnt you get farther from the push off if your closer to the wall when you do your turn?
It feels like i dont get very far off my turn if i only take one stroke after the T than getting closer to the wall

@northropbound Being closer will use more energy to push off. It's about finding a balance and what works best for you. If you're doing freestyle you may not need to get as far off the wall if you go straight into your swimming.
