There is the psychiatric service dog society headed up by Joan Ensayra where you can get lots of help and support in training your own dog (which is really best anyway for you and the dog) and I have been known to assist as well. The problem is money for one and for two for psych conditions a cookie cutter trained dog often won't work because who has what symptom is so variable even within the same illness. These dogs are and need to be highly customized for the individual they are with.

on the contrary, my psychiatric service animal (maltese) has been amazing. I'm in college and he has helped my anxiety and depression so much. I couldn't go to classes before we brought him to the dorm, and giving a presentation? instant panic attack. my dog helps soothe me and does force me to get out of bed. so---they can be very great psychological therapy tools.

Ditto. Know your stuff before acting like you do.

Not a good idea, animals should not be used like plush toys;
Plus, a human with mental issues could easily torture or harm animals without realizing what is doing to them;
Animals are not psychological tools or objects, animals are just beings like me and you.
The word is Psychiatric not psychological!!!!

This is a great idea. I have depression and severe social anxiety to the point I wouldn't leave the house on my own. Over 7 months ago I rescued a dog from our local shelter. She is by no means a service dog but she has help me greatly. She has made it so I can go out on my own and she even helped me get the confidence to get a job.
