Elinor O'Connell performs "I Dreamed a Dream" from the musical Les Miserables. On The Tonight Show, August 1988. Like my clips?? Check out my radio station, Sho-Toonz, at http://www.live365.com/stations/mr_bungee?site=live365
@anneoco1 I've known Eleanore's family since before she was born, know her singing style and abilities, and was delighted to find this. It may be that she was directed this way in the show; if so the music director must have been an idiot. However, the physical demands of this style of singing have nothing to do with her phrasing, and no legit singer would use that as an excuse for any performance. You do her an injustice by saying it.
Answer to your comment re: her phrasing of the song. This was when she was staring in Les Mis in LA and it is being sung as directed for the show regarding phrasing. Also! singing like this is extremely physical and requires much more air than your average pop singer.
