Tamlang is an impoverished mountain community in the town of Santa Catalina, Negros Oriental, Philippines. Tamlang was and continues to be a base for insurgencies by the New People's Army. The eco-kalan presentation is aimed at improving the health, environment and economics of poor communities. The Sustainable Tree Farming for Firewood (STFF) program of the Eco-Kalan Project is aimed at providing "eco-kalanized" communities with sustainable supply of firewood for personal use and source of income from the sales of surplus firewood. STTF is also aimed at promoting the greening of communities; offsetting climate change impact of carbon emissions from burning firewood; and facilitating the granting of Individual Property Rights to Government Timber Lands to households, farms and schools with established sustainable tree planting operations.
