  • Sorry, but I don't know how long it exactly is. I let it changed by a guy at garage ... he put it out out of the package and changed it, without showing me the package. And yes, I think it would solve the problem because the noise and going over 1200 rpm without noise are the same things I had. I changed it because it was old, but in your case it might be because it's too long ( 3mm does count on such place as well ).

  • just bumped into this video, i'm having the same problem. it's definetly the belt. also check the belt "tensor" (makes the belt tighter). if it's worn out then it's not able to keep the belt tight as it should be.- changing mine (belt) tomorrow.-

  • @Arz00 try to replace de steering injection pump could be that thing to

  • Yeah ! E36 are the Best Series ;) I drive an 325tds E36 ;)

  • I wish we got the diesels here in the U.S. .. my 318i is pretty good on fuel, but I'll always love diesels more

  • thank you guys! you've been very helpful! i'll change that belt as soon as possible. See ya, and love for ours E36 cars! :) bye

  • hello,

i´ve asked my brother who works as an mechanic at BMW dealer. He said that the 1885mm long is the right one for the 318tds. The 1888mm long originally fits fort 318i/iS/ti and also for the first series of the 320i engine in 3-series E36. Hope i could help you with that problem.

  • ok, do you mean the gum belt?

i know the original is 1885 mm long.

when i changed it i put one 1888 mm long belt, because the auto parts shop said it's ok too.

do you think that if i buy a 1885 mm long belt i would solve this problem? ho long is yours? it should be written on the package.
