  • I would like to see a Prius that has a jetta TDI engine transplanted into it. The VW diesel get great mileage close to the Prius now imagine if it was with the Toyota hybrid system? I would buy that in a heartbeat.

  • @adamslurch71 Good point, the 1.8 and 2 litre turbo engines Europe has run for many years are outstanding--see Ford's new Ecotec 2.0 finanly! Turbos and TD's just make so much sense in this atmosphere. However, one thing that is easily overlooked is the low exhaust emession of the hybrid, as much as 1/3 less then a comperible four banger. I give it about another 5 years and everthing running will be a hybrid, and they will be fun to drive too!

  • I believe the diesel golf beat the prius in average MPG.. and i believe diesel engines are more reliable than gasoline engine the prius has and cheaper to maintain than the batteries the prius uses.. Gas is a little more yes but maintenence is less... Plus most diesel pollution settles to the ground..

BTW my fathers dodge 2500 cummins will read 90mpg when going downhill with the foot off the gas.. show us legit hand calculations with the trip odometer

  • @rsxs1212 yep, down hill I can drive forever! Emissions --pollution- is another Prius strong suit, about 1/4 to 1/3 comparably.

In Cali CARB makes manufactures’ guarantee battery packs for 150k miles, no, if, ands or buts—they replace them for FREE if they fall below Toyota OS specs.

  • How many miles you can drive on ELECTRIC MODE ONLY?

  • The computer regulates the modes in the US, but I did run out out gas once and went a mile or so, and could have went probably about 5 or 10 MAX--while montering the batteries, run them to low and I hear really bad (expensive) things can happen. The new gen 3 looks really cool---NICE VID

  • @patmichl i run a bmw e46 320d, 6spd 2.0L CDI i can manage 24,2km/L if i try hard.

A euro spec Focus TDCI should be able to beat that. and with a sooth filter/diesel-cat it is almost as clean as a gasoline engine. (NOx is still problamatic.)

  • My supercharged 5.3 silverado gives 18mpg/city. 23mpg/highway.half ton pick up.I don't need 50 mpg wtf??

0-60 in 4.9 sec. dyno tested

  • @rmaltbie1 I know and I hope its true, I would love to be able to build a hybrid myself, that way it has an Eco mode for most of my driving and a power mode for when I drive through the mountains.

  • @alexancia5279 Based on urbex2007 writing motorway, my guess would be that he's from the UK! In that case his mpg figures are based on imperial gallons 60-70 mpg (imperial) = about 50-58 mpg (US)! These figures should easily be possible with a 1.6l turbo diesel Focus... I believe your 30 mpg's are probably based on a US spec gasoline powered Focus not a diesel!

  • @urbex2007 No your actually not getting 70+ mpg in a ford focus. I had one, you can barely get alil over 30 mpg if you try. Your claiming you get 60-70mpg? Yeah ok, your not fooling anyone here...
