  • Of course God is a spirit. He's a spirit in the same way I am a spirit. The human body is composed of a physical body that cannot move without the aid of the spirit body.

  • Not in the Bible, but the LDS church uses other scripture and living prophets to learn and clarify doctrine.

  • Does it say anywhere in the Bible that it should be done? The LDS church likes to use 1 Cor 15:29 for baptizing the dead, but do you have another scripture found in the Bible to back it up?

  • He never said they shouldn't be done.

  • "Paul illustrated that baptisms for the dead were definitely being done."

Oh, I agree. But did he say that this is something that must be done? Remember 1 Corinthians is a letter to tell the Church telling them what they are doing wrong. These people were still hanging onto their pagan ideals.

  • I'll bet He did. After all these years and translations some things have been lost. Also, if people would read other gospels than the Bible, they would see more. Who are these "officials" to decide what is scripture and what is to be put in the Bible?

Paul illustrated that baptisms for the dead were definitely being done.

  • If baptisms for the dead is so important why didn't Jesus make mention of it to his disciples?

  • I totally agree that Paul was not telling them to baptize for the dead. They did not believe in the resurrection, so he said "Why do we baptize for the dead if the dead aren't even resurrected?" It would be in vain to do baptisms for dead people if they are not resurrected. It seems though you misunderstood.

  • One thing you need to understand about 1 Corinthians is that it's a letter of correction for the Church of Corinth from Paul. They were having problems understanding and following the gospel.

Paul wasn't telling the church in Corinth to baptize the dead, he is illustrating his argument that the resurrection is a reality. They didn't even believe in the resurrection.

  • 1 Corthinans 15:29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?
