No, it wasn't any different then. The colloquial thinking was, the theological perspective was, but the actual area of philosophy itself really only used what it could infer, or presumed it was deducing, about human nature. I know what divine right is, and that it pertains to kings, in your dissonance you overlook its rather long and very important to law, evolution, from henothiestic times and profound effect on what was thought of a humans individual rights as a result they were all subjects.

Most theocratic states, even today, stand as shinning examples to how systems truly based on religious "God" given edicts stand juxtaposed, as many religious figures did against the idea of natural human rights (some were for it though, many thought it suspect, others much worse) apart from those that match religious edicts heretical. This pattern goes all the way back (and before) to the stoics who really get into natural right and even in it's previous emergences in Epicurean thinking.

Thank you for saying what needs to be said, and standing up to these morons. Sometimes I look around and think I'm living in crazy world. People actually listen to idiocy like Kirk Cameron and creationism? They do, and it makes me a little bit sick to my stomach. Mostly because it scares me.

The problem is that humans aren't born with knowledge, we're blank slates. In order to function in modern society, we need to be educated. When you have people who don't become educated, and thus support ideologies that are anti-education (because that leads to elitist, ivy-league people), you get a society that actually praises ignorance and stupidity, and puts down knowledge.

Stupid people are "real" and "down to earth", and people think that's a good way to go... so humanity suffers.
