I forgot to mention , It does play 'fast'. i already know this. Im sure it always has, as again....this is about as cheap a record player that one could buy. This was for a kid who had two records, and said he wanted one, but was probably just gonna shove it under his bed.

My mom, who lives in anothe rstate, found this at either a garage sale or flea market, took a risk and bought it and mailed it to me. When she told me, I thought that was a recipe for disaster, as most I find need work of SOME kid. But leave it to mom, who knows nothing about them, to find a working player on her first try.

The body is made of flimsy cardboard type material with a cheap wrap, that if wet, Absorbs water bad (I sprayed it down to clean it and the whole lid changed color as it absorbed and swelled) No clue what make it is or year, Just a generic "J.C. Penney" type player I assume.

I chose "Rage in the Cage" by J. Geils Band, because I had this record as a kid, a a similar small-speaker portable like this, and I played that record a million times. It was bought for the A-side, :Centerfold", but I much preferred this track.

Anyway, It was a freebie gift from Mom, and all things considered, Its not a bad find. If not for playing a tad fast, which I could alter if I took it apart, It really operates about as good as it did new....which is to say, Cheap, but effective.

  • dude that thing is in real great condition..i love it man..would pay good money for one..

  • @BANGERS68 Its not in THAT great of condition, as seen by the stains on the lid, and you'd be silly to pay more than $10 or $15 for such a simple, cheaply built unit. But thanks for the comment.....it is a fun little player.

  • Nice Fun player !!

    Thanks for posting.

  • @legOldtimer Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it.

  • How fun the little player is! Fun as a novelty item for the collection! Doesn't sound that bad at all considering the tiny speaker! Fabulous! I LOVED that J. Geils tune!

  • @sideshowtink Oh, and I Noticed how good it sounded in the vid. In person its very tinny and low volume, but the camera or the acoustics of the room make it sound like it actually has decent volume!

  • Just found a very similar record player today at the thrift store - looks a lot like yours, except it's made by a company called Philharmonic and it also has a 78 speed.

  • Very Cool! I had a player like this as a 4 year old in 1957. I played a 45 of "Sixteen Tons" over and over at thirty three and a third till my mom took it away saying that I was going to drive us both nuts. The nifty fifties just can't beat it.

  • Cool that is works, shame that it doesn't have 78 RPM. I am looking for a similar model for quick easy checking of 78s: a Montreal-made Symphonic portable record player like what I had as a kid. I hope to find one eventually.

    Nice fun find!

  • @sideshowtink Thanks, Tink! I'd have probably never bought this unless it was $2.00. But for a gift, I love it. It was suggested that the lid needs a bunch of stickers to complete the picture. I need to find some Michael Jackson or Care BEars stickers:) And Yes, LOVE that song. I cut it off early, cause it really was just a demo vid, not a song vid. but great, great song....a 'double A-side" if you ask me.
